It's a challenge for Australia to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and once went nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are the only things left for a team that has accomplished all there is.

That it took as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the chance.

Finally, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a chance to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory arrived three months after her bow and seven international trophies have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the case for championship match pressure. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this hundred was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this knock came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it has been a challenging time because it seemed I lacked timing at all," stated Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive nature activate and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and after that the batsman was on her way.

"A chance to go out there and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was removed the team required another 66 at run per delivery - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the belief to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we know we can succeed."

That comment will be the last Australia's opponents at this World Cup should hear.

In recent days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this victory coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

During that phase they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing through the pain.

But while she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have delayed plans to retire, this championship is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is hasn't yet secured an international tournament as skipper.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
