Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
